Luke 6:46-49 | “So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord!’ when you don’t do what I say? I will show you what it’s like when someone comes to me, listens to my teaching, and then follows it. It is like a person building a house who digs deep and lays the foundation on solid rock. When the floodwaters rise and break against that house, it stands firm because it is well built. But anyone who hears and doesn’t obey is like a person who builds a house right on the ground, without a foundation. When the floods sweep down against that house, it will collapse into a heap of ruins.”

Our disciple series has us looking at the steps a follower of God takes to stay going God’s way on the path He has for us. Jesus says–

Luke 9:23b | …“If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross daily, and follow me.”

We’ve seen that a disciple first believes in Jesus as Lord and Savior and then knows God’s ways as they study and love His Word. But we can’t stop there. After all, what good is knowing God’s way if we don’t actually walk it?

Know: The result

Psalm 1:1-3 | Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.

  • In Psalm 1, the righteous person who does what is right is directly linked to loving and meditating on God’s Word. Why is this?
