PRAYER - Jesus’ prayer in the garden before his death (pray to endure)

Luke 22:41-44 | He walked away, about a stone’s throw, and knelt down and prayed, “Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.” Then an angel from heaven appeared and strengthened him. He prayed more fervently, and he was in such agony of spirit that his sweat fell to the ground like great drops of blood.

  • Jesus knows he is about to be betrayed, arrested, and crucified. How is he feeling?

  • As He struggles, what does Jesus do?

  • What does Jesus ask for?

  • Jesus prays for His desire, but shows that even if God doesn’t answer with a ‘yes,’ He still trusts Him. How do we see this in Jesus’ prayer?

  • God doesn’t change what Jesus is facing. What does He do instead? (Hint- its why the angel came).

  • When you face something you’d like to change, but the situation stays the same, is it hard for you to trust God? Based on Jesus’ example, what can you ask God for in those times?
